Does Win2PDF support Windows 95/98/ME?
No.  Win2PDF uses a printer interface that is significantly different between Windows 98 and Windows NT, so creating a Windows 98 version would take a great deal of work.  Dane  don't have the resources to undertake a Windows 98 version at this time.  But Win2pdf 1.50 and after is supporting Windows XP, Microsoft's next consumer version of Windows that will replace Windows ME.
faq

What type of fonts does Win2PDF support?
Win2PDF supports the 14 fonts that are built into Adobe Acrobat Reader®.  These include:
Courier
Courier-Bold
Courier-Oblique
Courier-BoldOblique
Helvetica
Helvetica-Bold
Helvetica-Oblique
Helvetica-BoldOblique
Times-Roman
Times-Bold
Times-Italic
Times-BoldItalic
Symbol (Symbol)
ZapfDingbats
TrueType fonts can be configured to be substituted with one of the supported fonts or printed as graphics.  To configure the TrueType font substitution:
Open the printers folder from Start->Settings->Printers.
Right click on the Win2PDF icon.
Select "Properties".
Select the "Device Settings" tab.
Click on the "Font Substitution Table" item.
For each font, choose the substituted font or choose "Print as Graphics."
TrueType fonts that use the symbol character set such as "Wingdings" are automatically printed as graphics.  Printing fonts as graphics can significantly increase the size of the PDF file, so this feature should be used with care.  Downloadable Type 1 Postscript fonts are not currently supported.

I'm a noncommercial user.  How do I remove the extra page from each document?
Win2PDF is free for noncommercial use, but you must purchase the software to remove the extra page from each document.
faq

How can I control the PDF file name without prompting?
There are three options:
If the output PDF file can always have the same name, you can create a Windows port that specifies the name.  To create a file name port:
1.  Open the printers folder under Start>Settings>Printers.
2.  Right click on Win2PDF and select "Properties."
3.  Select the "Ports" tab.
4.  Click on the "Add Port..." button.
5.  Under "Available Printer Ports" select "Local Port" and then click the "New Port" button.
6.  Under "Enter a port name:" type in the full path name to the PDF file that you would like to be created.  For example, you could type "c:\my.pdf"  Click OK.
7.  You should be back at the "Ports" tab of the "Properties" dialog.  The file name that you entered in step 6 should display under "port."  Click the check box for the port filename, and then click "OK" or "Apply".
Printing to Win2PDF will now create a PDF file using the name that you picked without prompting.
If you are a software developer using Visual Basic or a similar language, you can control the output file name by adding an entry to the Windows registry.  Win2PDF looks for a string registry value (REG_SZ) named "PDFFileName" at the following locations and in the following order:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\Dane Prairie Systems\Win2PDF"
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Dane Prairie Systems\Win2PDF"
and
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Dane Prairie Systems\Win2PDF"
The "PDFFileName" value should be set to the full path name of the PDF file, and may contain a single asterisk character '*'  to specify a wildcard.  If "PDFFileName" does not contain a wildcard '*' character, the "PDFFileName" entry is removed from the registry after the PDF file is created and you must add the "PDFFileName" each time you print.  Otherwise, the '*' character is replaced with a sequential number so that PDF files are never overwritten. If the "PDFFileName" entry does not exist in the registry, the user will be prompted to enter a file name.
From Visual Basic, you can set the output file name using the following code sample:
SaveSetting "Dane Prairie Systems", "Win2PDF", "PDFFileName", filename
Where the filename parameter is the full path name for the PDF file.  If the "PDFFileName" parameter does not contain a wildcard '*' character, you must call SaveSetting each time you print.
If you are a software developer and are developing an application that uses Win2PDF, you can also control the output filename using the standard Win32 API.  To specify the file name you need to use the Microsoft defined DOCINFO structure and the StartDoc function.  Set the lpszOutput field of the DOCINFO structure to the fully qualified path name of the file, and then pass the DOCINFO structure to the Win32 StartDoc function.  Using this method, each file can be created using a unique name.

Does Win2PDF support user defined page sizes?  How can I add a custom page size to Win2PDF?
Win2PDF does support user defined page sizes.  To create a custom page size:
1.  Open the printers folder
2.  Under the "File" menu, select "Server Properties".
3.  Select the "Forms" tab.
4.  Check the "Create a New Form" box, and fill out the "Form Description" and "Paper Size" fields.  It is best to leave the "Printer Area Margins" fields as 0.
5.  Select "Save Form" and close the dialog.  Your form should now be available to Win2PDF.
faq

Does Win2PDF support compression?
Yes.  Win2PDF supports "flate" compression of all page objects.
faq

Does Win2PDF create PDF files that are optimized for web downloading?
PDF files created with Win2PDF can be used on web pages, but they are not optimized for web downloading.
faq

Does Win2PDF support embedding Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files?
Some applications will send the EPS TIFF preview to the driver which will display correctly, but the PostScript commands contained in the EPS file will not be embedded in the PDF file.
faq

Does Win2PDF support bookmarks or password protecting PDF documents?
These features are not supported by Win2PDF, but are under consideration for future versions of the product.  The server based PDF Autocrypt tool from TenBox Technologies can add encryption to PDF documents created by Win2PDF.
faq

Can Win2PDF be used on a web server?
Win2PDF can be used on a web server, but the designer recommends PDFlib for web server applications.
Please note that usage on a server requires a server license of Win2PDF
faq

Is it legal to create PDF files with Win2PDF?
Yes.
Adobe Systems Inc. created the PDF file format and owns the copyrights on the data structures, operators, and written specification for PDF.
Adobe wishes to make PDF an open standard, so they have given permission to anyone to write software that creates PDF files.  The have also given royalty free licenses to the patents if used to create PDF files.
Information on this policy is in section 1.7 of the PDF specification published by Adobe, and also at http://partners.adobe.com/asn/developer/legalnotices.html
faq

Is it possible to create PDFs using Win2PDF so that the "Text Selector Tool" cannot be used within Adobe Acrobat Reader® to highlight and copy text?

The PDF file format supports security permissions that can be used to restrict copying text or printing, but setting permissions requires PDF encryption and is not supported by Win2PDF.  If you configure a TrueType font to be printed as graphics as described in "What type of fonts does Win2PDF support?", the text selector tool cannot highlight and copy the text.  The "print as graphics" feature can significantly increase the file size.
faq

Does Win2PDF support Eastern European or Asian character sets ?
Is it possible to use win2pdf with 2-bytes characters like Korean (EUC-KR) ?
Not at this time.  Win2PDF does not support double byte character sets. Dane Prairie is investigating expanded character set support for a future version of Win2PDF.
'print as graphics' won't work.  Unfortunately there isn't any work around
faq

Is the product available on CD rom ?
No. The software is only available on download (evaluation version) with the possibility to buy user licenses

faq

Why do I get an "access denied" error when saving a PDF file to a network share?
Win2PDF runs as part of the Windows NT print spooler which has different account privileges than the currently logged in user.  The print spooler runs as part of the local system account which has limited access to network shares.  Some information related to this issue from the Microsoft knowledge base is at:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q121/8/53.asp
Dane Prairie don't have a solution to this problem at this time.

What is windows terminal server ?
The Microsoft Windows Terminal Server (WTS) is a server program running on its Windows NT 4.0 (or higher) operating system that provides the graphical user interface (GUI) of the Windows desktop to user terminals that don't have this capability themselves. The latter include the relatively low-cost NetPC or "thin client" that some companies are purchasing as alternatives to the autonomous and more expensive PC with its own operating system and applications. The Windows Terminal Server was code-named "Hydra" during development.

The Windows Terminal Server has three parts: the multiuser core server itself, the Remote Desktop Protocol that enables the Windows desktop interface to be sent to the terminals by the server, and the Terminal Server Client that goes in each terminal. Users will have access to 32-bit Windows-based applications. The new terminal devices are being made by a number of vendors, including Network Computing Devices and Wyse Technologies. In addition, users of existing PCs running Windows 95 and Windows 3.11 operating systems can also access the Server and its applications. The Terminal Server can also serve terminals and workstations that run UNIX, Macintosh, or DOS operating systems that can't be upgraded to 32-bit Windows.

Co-developed with Citrix, Microsoft's Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition together with Citrix's MetaFrame product replace Citrix's WinFrame product
